MKS ransomware disrupts shipments; Applied Materials hit downstream

On 03/02/2023, MKS INSTRUMENTS disclosed a ransomware attack that materially impacted business systems and operations in its Vacuum Solutions and Photonics Solutions divisions, removing the company’s ability to process orders, ship products, or provide services. MKS later reported an estimated $200 million revenue impact for the quarter. Downstream, Applied Materials said its shipments would be negatively impacted by about $250 million due to the supplier’s cybersecurity event.
