Ransomware cripples Brescia municipality systems; 26 BTC demanded

Between 30–31/03/2021 the Municipality of Brescia was hit by ransomware that paralyzed IT systems and online services. Media reported a ransom demand of 26 BTC (~€1.3M). Critical functions including tenders/procurement systems, building permit platforms, school and cemetery systems, and various offices (e.g., accounting, registry, local police) were disrupted.
