Hospital Clínic de Barcelona ransomware disrupts care; surgeries and 3,000 appointments canceled

On March 5, 2023, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona was hit by ransomware affecting IT systems shared with its research foundation (FRCB‑IDIBAPS). The hospital worked with the Catalan Cybersecurity Agency and police to restore systems. Reporting indicates emergency services were impacted and around 150 non‑urgent surgeries and 3,000 appointments were canceled. The Government of Catalonia attributed the attack to RANSOMHOUSE.
