Dutch Finance Ministry cyber incident; treasury systems taken offline

The Dutch Ministry of Finance disclosed a cyber breach detected on March 19, 2026 after a third‑party alert. Unauthorized access to systems supporting primary processes in the policy department was identified. As part of the forensic investigation, the ministry temporarily took several systems offline, including the Treasury banking portal used by public entities. Payments continued through regular banking channels. The NCSC, external forensic experts, Dutch police cyber units, and the Dutch DPA were involved.
