N.L. government health IT ransomware causes provincewide appointment cancellations

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador reported a cyberattack detected Oct. 30, 2021 on provincial health IT systems. Hive ransomware encrypted numerous systems, causing widespread outages and forcing cancellation of thousands of medical appointments, including chemotherapy. Authorities also confirmed intruders accessed patient and employee data—demonstrating material service disruption at the provincial level.
