Ransomware disrupts Patriot Regional Emergency Communications Center and member-town services

A cyberattack discovered on 31 March 2026 affected the Patriot Regional Emergency Communications Center and municipal systems in Pepperell, Massachusetts. Public-safety partners in Ashby, Dunstable, Groton, Pepperell and Townsend experienced outages affecting non-emergency or business phone services, while 911 and emergency response remained operational. Official Pepperell Select Board records later identified the incident as ransomware and described approximately one week of disrupted network access.
