Unauthorized access to Walt Disney World menu systems forces manual operations

A federal criminal complaint alleges that former employee Michael Scheuer began unauthorized access to Walt Disney World restaurant menu systems in July 2024. Changes to the Menu Creator system propagated altered fonts across the menu database, rendering menus unusable and forcing the application offline while backups were restored. The system was affected for one to two weeks and manual processes were required; Disney prevented altered allergen information and other corrupted menu content from reaching restaurants. The complaint attributes at least USD 150,000 in damage to the cyber activity.
