Cyberattack on Sibanye-Stillwater disrupts processing at Columbus metallurgical complex

Sibanye-Stillwater experienced a cyberattack targeting its global ICT infrastructure on 8 July 2024. The company said mining and extraction continued with minimal disruption, but IT outages caused short-term operational delays at the Columbus metallurgical complex in Montana, affecting smelting of underground concentrate and recycling of spent autocatalysts. Manual backup processes were introduced and stockpiles accumulated while systems were restored.
