MoneyGram cyberattack causes multi-day money-transfer service outage

MoneyGram identified unauthorized access to its environment on 20 September 2024 and proactively took systems offline to contain the incident. The action interrupted customer services and its payment-transfer operations. MoneyGram began restoring its payment-transfer network on 23 September and reported complete functionality on 26 September. Its investigation found no ransomware but confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed and acquired consumer information between 20 and 22 September. MoneyGram later reported approximately $4.8 million in direct incident-related costs.
