Cyber intrusion severely disrupts Gateshead Council functions

Gateshead Council identified suspicious activity in January 2025 and restricted access to systems and network drives while containing the incident. The council later stated that the incident had severe effects on its ability to function because access to files was restricted and some partner organizations temporarily severed system links. Approximately 900 individuals were later identified as affected by a data breach.
