Cyber intrusion disrupts Alaska retirement contribution processing

The Alaska Division of Retirement and Benefits detected a cyber intrusion on 4 November 2024 and took systems offline. Its programs and applications were initially unreachable for about three weeks, while the eReporting system used by participating employers to report retirement contributions remained unavailable much longer after systems were moved to a cloud environment. The University of Alaska confirmed that it could not transmit employee retirement contributions through the normal process. DRB later estimated approximately $2.7 million would be needed to make affected participants whole for lost investment earnings and related effects.
