Malware attack on Uttarakhand state data centre disrupts government operations

Malware was detected on systems at Uttarakhand's State Data Centre on October 2, prompting the Information Technology Development Agency to shut down hosted systems for containment. The shutdown took critical state services offline, including the State Wide Area Network, government websites, the CM Helpline, land registration and e-Office, leaving government offices unable to perform normal work. Authorities later confirmed a cyberattack and reported that attackers had demanded ransom, but available evidence does not establish that ransomware encryption caused the outage.
