DDoS attacks knock Internet Archive and Open Library services offline

Internet Archive went offline on October 9 during a DDoS attack, and renewed DDoS activity the following day again knocked both Internet Archive and Open Library offline. The Wayback Machine returned on October 14 only in a provisional read-only state, with page capture still unavailable. SN_BLACKMETA claimed the DDoS attacks; reporting indicates the concurrently disclosed data breach and defacement may have involved different parties, so they are not treated here as the causal mechanism for the service outage.
