Malware attack cripples Colorado public defender network and delays court work

The Office of the Colorado State Public Defender discovered a malware attack on 09/02/2024 that encrypted systems and eliminated normal network access across its statewide organization. Business-critical systems became unavailable, offices operated with limited capabilities and court matters, filings, hearings and trials were delayed or rescheduled. Recovery extended for weeks and produced operational backlogs while the office rebuilt its environment.
