Ransomware disrupts Muscatine Power and Water internet and business systems

Muscatine Power and Water identified a ransomware incident on 26 January 2024 affecting its corporate network. The incident briefly disrupted corporate business systems and took MPW internet service offline for customers; internet service was restored within approximately eight hours using newly deployed equipment. MPW stated that electric generation, water services, field operations and other core utility operations were functioning normally. Subsequent investigation confirmed unauthorized access to customer information.
