Cyberattack disables Leicester City Council systems and public services

Leicester City Council detected a cyberattack on 7 March 2024 and shut down IT systems and phone lines. Numerous service portals and customer-service channels became unavailable or degraded, with housing, social care, revenues and benefits among services prioritized during restoration. The council warned that disruption and resulting backlogs could last at least two weeks; most main service portals were operating again by 28 March. The council later confirmed that data had been stolen and published by a known ransomware group; INC Ransom claimed responsibility.
