Regional Cancer Centre ransomware halts radiation treatment for five days

A cyberattack detected on 28/04/2024 affected software and servers supporting the Radiodiagnosis and Radiation Physics functions at REGIONAL CANCER CENTRE THIRUVANANTHAPURAM. Kerala's health minister later confirmed that eight desktop computers and four servers were infected and that radiation treatment was stopped for five days while systems and information were restored. Contemporary reporting estimated that more than 3,500 patients had treatments interrupted before radiation services resumed. Investigators subsequently assessed the incident as ransomware and reported evidence that brute-force access had been used.
