Beginning on 26 May 2024, the Internet Archive experienced a sustained distributed denial-of-service attack generating tens of thousands of malicious requests per second. The attack repeatedly knocked the Internet Archive and Wayback Machine offline or made service inconsistent for several days, although the underlying digital collections remained safe.
