Wiper attack disrupts Albania INSTAT systems and public statistical services

Albania's Institute of Statistics was attacked around 31/01/2024, leading to infected and wiped computers, compromise of identity-management infrastructure and loss of access to INSTAT's public website and statistical data services. Albania's cybersecurity authority identified destructive MEK-DDMC malware and attributed the operation to Homeland Justice. The public website remained unavailable for several days before restoration.
