Chelan County cyber incident disrupts government systems and creates document backlog

An unauthorized actor accessed Chelan County systems between May 20 and May 24, 2026, when the county detected malicious activity and shut down networked systems. The system-wide disruption materially affected county operations: the Clerk's Office accumulated more than 6,000 documents awaiting processing, state-system connectivity was not regained until June 22, and electronic filing remained unavailable until July 1.
