Intrusion into Brazil Civil Defense alert platform disrupts alert service

An unauthorized actor gained access to Brazil's Defesa Civil Alerta platform during the night of 19-20 June 2026 and generated multiple false extreme-emergency alerts. Authorities took the platform offline and subsequently operated it in a restricted mode in which state civil-defense agencies had to route alert requests through the national CENAD while validation work continued. Reporting indicated that false alerts reached roughly 30 million people across several states and the Federal District.
