Ransomware shuts UMMC clinics statewide and disrupts patient-care systems

On 19/02/2026, the University of Mississippi Medical Center suffered a ransomware attack that disabled its network, electronic health record and phone systems. UMMC cancelled statewide clinic operations and elective procedures, rescheduled patients and shifted hospitals and other essential care environments to paper-based downtime procedures. Clinics returned to normal operations after a nine-day disruption, while hospitals and emergency departments remained open throughout the incident.
