Ransomware compromises hundreds of Sapienza University servers and disrupts key services

On 01/02/2026, unauthorized access to Sapienza University of Rome's infrastructure led to a ransomware attack involving approximately 400 physical and virtual servers. Data on affected systems was encrypted and key university services, including institutional portals, the InfoStud platform and administrative workstations, were disrupted. The university isolated systems and progressively restored services with assistance from Italy's National Cybersecurity Agency.
