Mecklenburg County Public Schools detected ransomware-related system disruption around 2 September 2025. Internet-dependent instruction was forced offline and teachers relied on pen, paper and whiteboards while systems were secured; internet systems were restored about a week later. The district later confirmed Qilin as the attacker while continuing to assess the data impact.
