West Lothian ransomware disrupts education network through end-of-term contingencies

West Lothian Council suffered a ransomware attack against its education network on 6 May 2025. The network was isolated and schools relied on contingency arrangements while systems were investigated and rebuilt. Schools and examinations continued, but the council expected contingency arrangements to remain through the end of the school term. The council subsequently confirmed that data had also been stolen and later deployed a replacement education network for the 2025/26 term.
