Nova Scotia Power ransomware severely disrupts billing and smart-meter data operations

Nova Scotia Power's 2025 cyberattack culminated on April 25 when the threat actor destroyed backups and deployed ransomware after prior malware-enabled access and data exfiltration. Power generation and delivery continued, but business applications failed and the company later confirmed severe disruption to billing: smart meters could not communicate usage data to billing systems, forcing estimated billing and a prolonged restoration program.
