Ascension ransomware attack disrupts clinical operations across U.S. health system

On 08/05/2024, Ascension detected a cybersecurity incident later confirmed as ransomware. Electronic health records, MyChart, phone capabilities and systems used for ordering tests, procedures and medications became unavailable, forcing downtime procedures. Hospitals postponed non-emergency care and some diverted ambulances, while restoration of EHR access across the health system was not completed until 14/06/2024.
