South African Weather Service cyberattack disrupts normal service-delivery channels

A cyberattack on the South African Weather Service beginning on 26 January 2025 took core ICT systems, email and the website offline and disrupted normal aviation, marine and public weather-service delivery mechanisms. SAWS maintained essential forecasts and warnings through alternative channels, so the incident represents material degradation rather than complete loss of meteorological services.
