Ransomware attack on SETU Waterford cancels classes and disrupts campus IT services

South East Technological University experienced a cyberattack affecting its Waterford campuses on 1 November 2024. The campuses lost internet connectivity, internal email, file shares and access to other online facilities, causing Monday classes to be cancelled. Teaching resumed on 5 November, although network, phone and technology services remained disrupted. Ireland's Minister of State responsible for eGovernment subsequently described the incident as a ransomware attack.
