Ransomware attack disrupts Hellenic Open University's online education infrastructure

Hellenic Open University detected unauthorized access on 25 October 2024. The university later confirmed that ransomware reached its primary IT and backup infrastructure, encrypted its virtual-machine management environment and caused failures in secondary systems and the data network. Online services remained unavailable for days at an institution whose education program is delivered remotely, materially affecting student schedules and service delivery.
