Calgary Public Library cyber breach causes prolonged loss of digital and in-branch services

Calgary Public Library detected a cybersecurity breach in October 2024 in which servers were compromised and an attempted ransomware attack was blocked. Containment and secure restoration nevertheless caused significant service disruption, including temporary branch closures and loss of numerous digital and technology-dependent services. Services returned through a staged recovery, with full recovery completed in late December after more than 2,000 systems and devices across 22 locations were restored.
