Flint ransomware attack disables billing and communications systems

A ransomware attack began disrupting the City of Flint's network on 14 August 2024. Billing functionality, telephone systems and internal processes were impaired, council committee meetings were cancelled, and online water, sewer and tax payments remained unavailable until 6 September. Public safety, public works and public health services remained operational.
