KCATA ransomware attack disrupts regional transit call centers and paratransit booking communications

On January 23, 2024, a ransomware attack against the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority disrupted regional RideKC call centers and agency telephone lines. The interruption prevented normal telephone access to customer support and paratransit trip scheduling, requiring alternative telephone numbers for Freedom and Freedom-On-Demand customers. KCATA confirmed that fixed-route buses and paratransit vehicles continued operating. The Medusa ransomware group claimed responsibility, but the available official disclosure does not independently establish that attribution.
