Cyber intrusion manipulates Muleshoe municipal water controls and causes tank overflow

On January 18, 2024, attackers remotely accessed industrial control infrastructure at a municipal water facility in Muleshoe, Texas. Unauthorized manipulation of water-system controls caused a storage tank to overflow for approximately 30-45 minutes. Municipal personnel responded by disconnecting the affected control system and operating the facility manually. City officials confirmed the physical operational effect, while subsequent cybersecurity research connected the attack to activity associated with CyberArmyofRussia_Reborn. No interruption to public drinking-water availability or public injury was established.
