Beginning 11 December 2023, distributed denial-of-service attacks against Newsquest's regional news websites caused intermittent outages of web, app and digital-edition access. Journalists at affected publications also reported difficulty filing stories. The Southern Daily Echo, a Newsquest publication, acknowledged the attacks and disruption to readers; the incident concerns service availability rather than a confirmed data theft.
