Ardent Health ransomware attack disrupts emergency and elective care across multiple US hospitals

On November 23, 2023, Ardent Health Services detected a ransomware attack and disconnected its corporate network, suspending access to servers, the Epic electronic health record system and clinical and financial applications. Hospitals and affiliated care facilities maintained essential patient care under downtime procedures, but some emergency departments diverted ambulances and nonurgent elective procedures were rescheduled. Affected facilities included hospitals operating under UT Health East Texas and other Ardent-affiliated health systems. Subsequent restoration updates documented the return of core clinical applications and the gradual resumption of normal services. The Ardent, UT Health East Texas and Portneuf Medical Center records are consolidated as consequences of the same corporate incident, not separate attacks.
