DDoS attacks cause repeated outages of OpenAI's ChatGPT and API services
Beginning on November 8, 2023, OpenAI experienced service disruptions consistent with distributed denial-of-service attacks against ChatGPT and its API. OpenAI's incident communications described abnormal traffic patterns and intermittent service availability, with recovery reported on November 9. The attacks directly degraded or interrupted the delivery of OpenAI's digital services. Anonymous Sudan claimed responsibility, but independent confirmation of that attribution was not established. A separate major ChatGPT outage earlier on November 8 had a different documented technical cause and is not attributed to this DDoS incident.
