Cyberattack disables Washington State Department of Transportation's travel information and freight permit services

Starting November 7, 2023, a cybersecurity incident disrupted public-facing digital services operated by the Washington State Department of Transportation. Travel maps, traffic camera access, ferry-tracking information and online permits for certain freight movements became unavailable or degraded. Agency statements indicated that the incident was directed at travel-information systems and that no other systems were known to be affected. The documented consequence was disruption to transportation information and digital permit service delivery, not a verified shutdown of ferry operations or physical transportation.
