Ransomware interrupts Akumin's medical imaging and cancer care services

On October 11, 2023, Akumin identified ransomware activity that disrupted its ability to provide medical imaging and oncology services to business partners and patients. The company began restoring radiology and oncology operations incrementally on October 12. All cancer centers had resumed treating patients under predefined plans by October 17, while most appointment scheduling systems and patient-facing operations were restored by November 10. Akumin disclosed approximately USD 6.6 million in incident-related costs in a subsequent SEC filing. The documented interruption affected the direct delivery of diagnostic and treatment services.
