Cyber incident forces Cogdell Memorial Hospital to divert patient services and suspend normal billing

Cogdell Memorial Hospital identified unauthorized activity in its computer systems around October 10, 2023. The incident led to network containment and loss of access to important hospital systems, with severe restrictions on telephone operations and the introduction of paper-based clinical procedures. In a subsequent official update, the hospital confirmed that some patient services had been diverted and billing had been delayed by nearly 12 weeks, materially impairing clinical service delivery and revenue collection. The Lorenz ransomware group reportedly claimed the incident, but its involvement and the precise attack mechanism were not independently verified.
