ORBCOMM ransomware attack interrupts fleet tracking and electronic logging services

On September 6, 2023, ORBCOMM experienced a ransomware attack affecting its FleetManager platform and Blue Tree product line. The company confirmed service outages preventing transportation customers from tracking vehicles and freight assets. Customers also experienced failures of electronic logging devices used to maintain federally required driving-hours records. Affected truck drivers reverted to paper logs, and the U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration granted temporary regulatory relief for specified Blue Tree devices. The incident directly disrupted the provision of fleet management services and degraded logistics visibility for downstream transportation operators.
