Pittsburg municipal cyberattack interrupts utility billing and court proceedings

A cyber incident beginning September 16, 2023, affected the City of Pittsburg, Kansas, causing outages across municipal email, telephone and online transaction systems. Later official updates confirmed that utility billing and payment services remained unavailable for several weeks, delaying billing cycles and requiring alternative payment arrangements. Municipal Court proceedings were also suspended, with resumption scheduled for November 8. Public safety dispatch and physical utility provision continued operating. The cyber event therefore caused prolonged interruption of municipal administrative and judicial service delivery without evidence of interruption to water or other essential utility supply.
