REJIS cybersecurity incident disrupts municipal courts and public safety information services

A security-related incident affecting the Regional Justice Information System, or REJIS, was reported on September 11, 2023. The incident disrupted a shared technology platform used by law enforcement organizations and municipal courts. St. Louis County shut down affected public safety computer systems and continued some procedures using paper records and assistance from the Missouri Highway Patrol. Separately, municipal courts in Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas, lost access to REJIS information, resulting in suspended services and rescheduled hearings. The incident represents a material interruption of a shared government technology provider with operational consequences for multiple dependent public institutions.
