Long Beach cyber incident disables online municipal services and utility payments

Following a network intrusion detected on November 14, 2023, the City of Long Beach disconnected systems to contain the incident. Municipal online services were disrupted, including utility payments, the utility customer call center, the main city website and certain public library digital services. Departments implemented manual and in-person alternatives while online services were progressively restored, with most systems back online by November 27. The city confirmed unauthorized data acquisition but found no evidence of ransomware encryption. Public safety, airport operations and refuse collection remained operational.
