Ransomware attack disrupts CNC manufacturing and naval shipbuilding at Fincantieri Marinette Marine

On April 12, 2023, a ransomware attack affected network servers at Fincantieri Marinette Marine's Wisconsin shipyard. Servers containing manufacturing instructions for computer numerical control equipment became unusable, knocking some CNC machines offline for several days and delaying parts of naval ship construction. The company confirmed a cybersecurity incident while indicating that repair and construction operations continued across its US facilities. The supported consequence is a short-term manufacturing slowdown, not a complete shutdown of all shipyards.
