December 2022 cyberattack disables HAW Hamburg university systems

A cyberattack discovered on December 29, 2022 compromised central IT and storage systems at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, encrypted virtualized platforms and deleted backups. The university shut down email and networked applications, disrupting communication with students, staff and research partners as academic services were restored in stages. A Vice Society leak-site listing in March 2023 referred to this earlier event, not a new March attack.
