Cornelius malware incident disrupts town communication and administrative services

Malware detected in Cornelius municipal systems on 11 July 2023 led to protective network disconnection. Town Hall telephone services, access to internal files and routine non-emergency services were disrupted until restoration work progressed; the town later clarified that this was malware on one device rather than confirmed spreading ransomware, and 911 remained operational.
