Hayward ransomware intrusion disrupts municipal online transactions and dispatch workflow

Intruders penetrated Hayward municipal networks on 9 July 2023, prompting isolation of city systems and outages of public web portals, email and non-emergency communications. Computer-aided emergency dispatch had to use pen-and-paper procedures, and some billing and library services remained unavailable after the internal network was restored; emergency responders remained in service.
