Fullerton India cyberattack interrupts customer access to financial services

In April 2023, Fullerton India, subsequently renamed SMFG India Credit, reported a malware-related cybersecurity incident and operated offline as a precautionary measure. Customers reported inability to access online services on April 24, and the company announced that customer services were being restored. LockBit claimed to have stolen substantial amounts of data, but the group's claims do not independently establish ransomware encryption. The material impact was temporary degradation of the lender's digital financial-service delivery.
