New World TV cyberattacks delay World Cup subscription activations

New World TV, the Togo-based broadcaster holding FIFA World Cup 2022 broadcasting rights across parts of sub-Saharan Africa, experienced multiple cyberattacks during the tournament. A company representative reported that attacks affecting one of its servers, combined with unusually high subscriber demand, delayed the activation and renewal of television subscriptions. Technicians identified seven attacks on November 21 and reportedly resolved the immediate server problem by midday November 22. Togo's national cybersecurity agency independently acknowledged attacks against the broadcaster. The documented operational consequence was delayed subscription provisioning and customer access rather than a verified interruption of television broadcasts.
